The Spa Experience
On the edge of Lake Louise, beneath Victoria Glacier and the peaks of Banff National Park, BASIN Glacial Waters brings contemporary thermal bathing to one of Canada’s most extraordinary natural settings. Designed by architect Matteo Thun, the indoor-outdoor sanctuary uses stone, wood, water and alpine views to create an experience that feels elemental and refined.
Guests move at their own pace through hot, cool and neutral experiences designed to encourage recovery and deep relaxation. Finnish and bio saunas, aromatic steam, cold immersion, hydro-massage features and thermal pools are balanced by spaces for silence and reflection. The Glacier Lounge, Himalayan salt relaxation room and warm stone room allow the body to settle between cycles, while the outdoor pool places Lake Louise and its surrounding mountains at the centre of the experience.
Reserved for adult overnight guests of Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, BASIN maintains a calm, spacious atmosphere. Its phone-free environment makes it easier to disconnect from daily distractions and reconnect with water, temperature and nature.
Treat Yourself
The heart of BASIN is contrast bathing: alternating heat, cold and rest in a restorative rhythm. Guests may follow a suggested thermotherapy pathway or design a personal circuit, lingering where it feels most beneficial. A journey might begin in a sauna or steam room, continue through a cold plunge or bucket shower, and pause in a thermal pool or quiet lounge before repeating the cycle.
The experience extends beyond traditional hot and cold pools. A vitality pool and hydro-massage features help ease tired shoulders and muscles. Kneipp-style foot paths and alternating-temperature pools stimulate the feet and lower legs, a welcome complement after hiking, skiing or exploring the Rockies. The Silent Salt Relax room offers gentle warmth beside a Himalayan salt wall, while the Hot Stone Room invites guests to recline on heated surfaces as the body gradually unwinds.
BASIN and Fairmont Spa are separate wellness experiences. Guests seeking hands-on treatments can visit the hotel’s eight-room Fairmont Spa below the main lobby. Its menu includes massage, facials, body rituals and nail care, with signature experiences inspired by the surrounding landscape. Highlights include the Glacier Lake body ritual, Boreal Forest treatment, magnesium massage, scalp therapies and customized facials.
Together, the two spaces make it possible to create a complete wellness day: thermal bathing for contrast and stillness, followed by a focused treatment for relaxation, recovery or skin care.
Stay & Dine
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise offers 539 guest rooms and suites overlooking the lake, Victoria Glacier, surrounding mountains or historic grounds. Dining ranges from European alpine cuisine at Walliser Stube to cocktails and lake views at Lakeview Lounge and Fairview Bar & Restaurant. Alpine Social offers a relaxed gathering place, Louiza presents contemporary dining, and Afternoon Tea remains a classic way to slow the pace and enjoy the scenery.
