Five BC Spas Among Spas of America’s Top 50 Spas of 2010
British Columbia placed high in Spa & Wellness travel for 2010, with five BC spas appearing in Spas of America’s Top 50 Spas of 2010. The annual list, based on consumer behavior on Spas of America’s spa travel website, offers insight into what spa consumers around the world are viewing. “British Columbia’s natural beauty, diverse experiences, and world-class hospitality and professionalism continue to rank high among spa travelers,” says Spas of America president Craig Oliver.

The most popular BC spa for 2010 and 6th overall is the Tigh-Na-Mara Resort’s Grotto Spa, also the largest resort spa in the province. The spa offers signature treatments and services with a focus on West Coast natural ingredients. Its 2,500-square-foot Grotto Mineral Pool, infused with natural minerals and trace elements, invites guests to “detoxify the body and rejuvenate the spirit.”

Second place in the province and 10th overall goes to one of BC’s newest hotels, the Haven Spa, Sidney Pier Hotel. Anchoring the coastal town of Sidney-by-the-Sea on Vancouver Island’s Saanich Peninsula, this boutique waterfront hotel is inspired by the scenic splendour and serenity of its natural Pacific Northwest shoreline.

The Ancient Cedars Spa, Wickaninnish Inn is BC’s third most popular spa and 22nd overall. Hugging the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, and located minutes from the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and Clayoquot Sound, the award-winning Wickaninnish Inn offers dramatic natural beauty in a luxurious setting.

A short drive south of “the Wick” is BC’s fourth most popular spa—and 23rd overall—Black Rock Oceanfront Resort & Spa. This luxurious new outpost on Canada’s wild Pacific coast perches on a dramatic headland overlooking Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast, in the sleepy yet picturesque village of Ucluelet. Black Rock blends modern luxury with wild nature, offering expansive, light-filled spaces and breathtaking seaward views.

Fifth place in the province and 30th overall is one British Columbia’s most distinctive spa experiences—the urban oasis called Miraj Hamam Spa. Bringing a touch of a touch of old-world ritual and romance to Vancouver’s modern South Granville landscape, Miraj is a hamam spa, fashioned on the ancient bathhouses of Turkey and France.

Two other BC spas made Spas of America’s Top 100: the well-established Hills Health Ranch in 108 Mile House and the recently launched Scandinave Spa Whistler.  Other BC spas looking to make next year’s list include Clinton’s Echo Valley Ranch & Spa, Fairmont’s Willow Stream Spas at the Pacific Rim Vancouver and Empress Victoria, Vancouver Island's Brentwood Bay Lodge & Spa, and the recently launched Kurspa, Sparkling Hill Resort in Vernon.
