An Exceptional Spa Experience ~ Aru Spa and Salon

The valet car service is my first indication that this suburban day spa in White Rock, BC, Canada, is going to be exceptional. Heavy, soundproof glass doors open onto a modern, uncluttered reception area. Serenity is assured by a wall of the same thick, etched glass separating reception from the buzz of activity in the salon beyond.  

After completing the guest questionnaire, I am guided through another set of glass doors to the locker room and changing area. As we pass the women’s relaxation lounge, I pause for a quick peek. Parting the gauzy curtain reveals an intimate, raised circular chamber draped in more gauzy fabric, muting the lighting. A rich-red fabric banquette encircles the space, heaped with jewel-colored cushions and throws, reminiscent of a lush Turkish oda (harem); it’s the perfect spot to recline and sample Aru’s signature chilled Raspberry Green Tea while snacking on healthy nibbles.

An aura of peaceful spaciousness

In the change room I am shown the shower and steam rooms, allocated a locker, fitted with the perfect size of spa sandal, and given a wrap for use in the steam room. Washing my hands, I note with pleasure the thoughtful selection of skin and hair care products, styling tools, and other health and beauty items offered.
The change room is not particularly large, but its decor, lighting and soothing music (heard throughout the spa) give the impression of peaceful spaciousness.  Each of the rooms I enter today has a slightly different character, but all are both functional and tranquil.

Personalized treatment from expert hands

Wearing my luxuriously textured robe, I make the acquaintance of my service provider.  Deanna’s courteous and attentive demeanor puts me at ease, as she guides me to a very intimate and inviting, candle-lit treatment room. She describes in detail what is in store during this, my first hot stone massage. A soft follow-up query on one of my questionnaire responses motivates her to lower the temperature of the massage bed and duvet, to my ideal comfort level.

Deanna’s expert touch transports me to a state of relaxed bliss. I am dimly aware of the differing yet complementary sensations caused by the texture, temperature, motion and pressure of her hands versus the silky, warm stones. I vow that this will not be my last hot stone massage. Muscles are soothed, joints loosened, and skin feels supple and soft.

Nurturing facial enhances well-being

While I’m still in near stasis, my treatment progresses to an Aru Signature facial, which includes my neck, arms and décolletage. Deanna’s deep enjoyment of her work is evident in her calming, nurturing touch.

I notice flattering improvement in the texture, color and tightness of my skin, which heightens my overall feeling of well-being following the services.  Respectful post-treatment discussion educates without preaching and encourages me to make a product purchase to enhance my current home care.

After lounging in the relaxation area, indulging in food and drink, I reluctantly make my way back to the change room, where I bless the foresight of the person responsible for providing the tools and product required to make my hair presentable again.

A quick, complimentary makeup application follows, and retrieval of my car by the valet concludes my day at the spa, with no detail overlooked.  I recommend Aru Spa to anyone in search of an intimate, personalized wellness experience that leaves nothing to chance.
