Canada’s Top 50 Spas of 2016

Spas of America, the No. 1 spa and wellness travel website, today unveiled its annual ranking of the leading Canadian spas based on consumer behavior on its website.

“In 2016, we saw continued growth in the Canadian spa and wellness industry,” says Spas of America president Craig Oliver. “A lower Canadian dollar is helping drive international visits to Canada. It also has the effect of encouraging Canadians to stay home and explore their own country. With Canada celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2017, we are forecasting an even better year for Canadian travel.”

For the second year in a row, Ontario placed the most spas in the Top 50 Canada Spas of 2016, but it was a Vancouver Island spa in British Columbia, the Grotto Spa at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort in Parksville, that was the No. 1 Canadian spa for 2016.

“Trends we’ve noticed in the past year include consumers being attracted to spa and wellness experiences in authentic, natural outdoor locations,” says Oliver. “Canada is one of the most diverse countries in the world, and the popularity of our spa and wellness experiences reflects the diversity. While City spas were the most popular experiences with 18 spas, more than two-thirds of the experiences were found outside of our major cities. These include Ocean and Mountain spas with seven each, Lake and Country with five each, Health and Wine with three each, and Mineral Hot Springs with two.”

The Top 50 Canada Spas of 2016 includes 19 spas from Ontario, 16 from British Columbia, six each from Alberta and Quebec, two from Saskatchewan, and one from Manitoba.
